One of our most asked-about items has been our Gun Rack, so I'm happy to announce some improvements and an addition to the lineup. Ladies and gentlemen: Gun Racks 2.0
Oh, and for those of you who'd rather not punch holes in your walls, good news. The mounting slots are set apart at multiples of 2", meaning that you can attach them to most rigs if that's more convenient in your space (for example, on the back side of a power rack).
Right now, we're trying to find the "just-right" metal gauge to cut these out of. The version 1 racks were made out of 0.188" steel, which was nice and beefy--and serious overkill. I'm a fan of over-engineering, but what we wound up with was an overly heavy box of steel that was expensive to ship and not really getting us anything. I think we might settle on something in the 8 to 10 gauge range for these--slightly thinner, less expensive, a good bit lighter, and still easily capable of handling anything a set of barbells can throw at them (for reference, most rigs are made of 11 gauge tubes--slightly thinner than what we're talking about here).
Finally, I'm a little torn on the subject of making a plastic or wood liner accessory to "protect the knurling." I've heard some mixed feelings from coaches and athletes, too. We can do it...but honestly, I think the threat of knurl-smashing has been greatly exaggerated, at least for the purposes of high-throughput gyms like CrossFit affiliates (where the bar tends to get beaten up for other reasons long before knurl wear becomes an issue). Granted, if you have an Eleiko or other high-end/competition bar, you probably want to protect it...which means you probably store it vertically or in a case anyways. Am I being crazy here?
At the end of the day, we're here to make what you guys want. If that means protective inserts, then by golly you will get plastic inserts. Let us know in the comments below!
